This past weekend Addison had cereal for the first time. I wasn't there to take pictures. Amber says she's a good little eater! It is a little early for her to be eating cereal, but the cardiologist said that he wanted to start her on it a little earlier because of her heart. He wants to get her as strong as possible before she goes into surgery.
Last night, Walon had to take the little head rest thingy out of her car seat because she was too big to have that thing in there with her.
Amber took Addison to the cardiologist a few weeks ago and this is what she found out:
First of all for anyone who want to know a bit more about her heart defect it is called tetralogy of fallot.
They are looking at having surgery in June. The cardiologist said that he usually likes to have the surgery around 6 months. He also told Amber that there isn't any difference between a 6 months heart and a year old heart, and he doesn't see any point in making the heart work harder for the extra 6 months. He said that the surgery would take between 2-6 hours depending on the condition of her pulmonary valve. He said that from what he can tell her heart defect is not as bad as others that he sees. When they actually meet with the surgeons, they will know how the pulmonary valve is looking better than he does. Addison will be in PICU for 72 hours after surgery for sure. She will have a breathing tube coming out of her mouth and tubes coming out of her sides. No one will be able to hold her until the breathing tube comes out which will probably be after the 72 hours. When she is able to be held, you can only her neck and butt. She can't be cuddled. She will definitely be in the hospital for 2 weeks. Depending if she get pneumonia or infection or something, then it will be longer. It will take her 6 weeks the fully heal up.
If you think of any questions that haven't been answered, please let me know. Amber likes for others to think of questions that she may not have thought of yet.
Also please keep Addison in your prayers and on your prayer lists. That's what she needs more than anything! Also pray for Amber and Walon that they stay strong! (I can't believe how strong they have been so far.)
